Cotton Tree Die Hard became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the 2014 Hand-in-Hand second division limited overs knock out cricket competition after they defeated No.3 by 52-runs in their first round encounter, played in West Berbice.
The encounter, which took place at Cotton Tree was reduced to 30 overs a side because of a late start due to rain, saw Die Hard electing to bat first, racking up 181 for 6 in their 30 overs with Roshan Gaffoor (36*), Tage Singh (36), Permaul Singh (24).
Bowling for No.3 Alim Rahaman (2-20) and Sean Asgar (2-30) were the two most effective bowlers. In reply, No.3 were slipped to 129 in 28.2 overs with Sean Asgar (24) and Andrew Tageram (23) for Cotton Tree, Kevin Shewtahal took 2 for 20, Pooran Persaud 2 for 20, Ahkram Rahaman 2 for 24 and Nashad Gaffoor 2 for 27.
