Alpha United clinches GFA second division league

Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United clinched the Stag Beer sponsored Georgetown Football Association (GFA) second division league title, crushing Santos by a 4-0 score line on Sunday at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground on Vlissengen Road and Carifesta Avenue.

Jermin Scott opened the scoring for Alpha United through a fifth minute strike. Veteran centrehalf Howard Lowe increased their advantage as he netted six minutes later.

They would increase their advantage in the second period as Edison Gomes found the back of the net through a 78th minute conversion. Captain Daniel Wilson would cap off the fine win, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet compliments of a 90th minute strike.

In the second matchup in the same division, home side GDF defeated Black Pearl FC by a 3-0 margin. Carlos Adams opened the scoring for the army with a 20th minute conversion. He would increase their lead, completing his first half double in the 32nd minute.

The win would be completed three minutes later as Trison Brown found the back of the net. In the lone first divisional matchup, Northern Rangers through an Omally Nassy second half double, came from behind to defeat Beacons FC 3-1.

Falling behind to a 26th minute Jimmy Gravesande strike, Nassy would level the score for the Kitty outfit with 47th minute effort. Jermaine Denheart would push them into the lead for the very first time in the fixture as he scored six minutes later.

Nassy would then complete the come from behind win, sealing his double with a 52nd minute attempt.
