GABF to get $2M from gov’t for 2014 CBC championship

Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President Nigel Hinds said government is contributing $2M to the association to support Guyana’s participation in the 2014 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship in the British Virgin Islands set for July 1-12.

The group is grateful for the funding, which Office of the President committed to providing in a correspondence to the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF). In a press statement, Hinds said the group intends to honour government’s confidence by ensuring that Guyana is represented in both the male and female events in the championship.

In addition, the GABF announced its respective male and female squads that will be participating in the national try-outs. The men’s squad is coached by Mark Agard and assisted by Darcel Harris, and comprises 35 players inclusive of both local and foreign talents. They are Akeem Kanhai, Travis Burnett, Dwayne Roberts,
