Bishops’ High clinched their berth to the Georgetown final, defeating St. Rose’s High 47-42 in their u-19 fixture when the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Conference Championships continued on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Marvin Durant led the scoring for the Carmichael street unit with 11 points. He was assisted by Daniel Haynes who netted nine points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Timothy Thompson who collected nine points and 12 rebounds.
Patrice Agrippa led the Church street side with 12 points and four rebounds while Shamar Huntley supported with 10 points. Due to the win, they will now face Marian Academy in the final following the Carifesta Avenue unit defeating Georgetown Technical Institute via walkover.
St. Stanislaus College crushed St. John’s College 37-11 in their u-16 fixture. Dequan Wray and Nigel Bowen led the scoring for the St. Stanislaus unit with 10 points each.
In the u-14 section, Bishops’ High once again got the better of St. Rose’s High, winning 22-15. Michael Williams led the winners with figures of eight points, three rounds and as many steals. He was assisted by Raydon Glasgow who netted four points and grabbed five rebounds. Kwesi Roberts led the way for the losers with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. He also collected six rebounds and seven steals in an all-round showing.
In the final matchup of the division, Marian Academy went down to the Combined Team by a 13-11 margin. Andrew Johnson netted a game high nine points for the Collective side while Jahleel Young led the way for the losers with four points and as many rebounds.
In the Corentyne Zone at Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) court, JC Chandersingh Secondary edged Lower Corentyne Secondary 34-31 in their u-19 fixture. Kevin Deolall and Simeon Fraser led the scoring for JC Chandersingh with 12 and eight points respectively.
Leading all scorers in a losing effort was Koby Crawford who netted 14 points while David Hope assisted with seven points.
In the final divisional matchup of the zone, Comprehensive Secondary edged home side PMTC 28-27. Osafa Profit was the chief scorer for the winners with a game high 13 points. On target for the winners with 13 points also was Kemo Bess.
Over at the Vryman’s Erven court in the New Amsterdam zone, New Amsterdam Multilateral walloped Berbice High School 24-8 in their u-19 fixture. Tafawa Daly led all scorers with eight points for winners.
In the final divisional fixture of the same zone, home side Vrymans Erven Secondary defeated Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) 26-25. Samuel Downer was the principal scorer for the winners with eight points whilst Glenroy King led all scorers with 13 points in the loss.
