Demerara Strikers defeat Berbice Rebels 5-3

…in first ever deaf football match

In the first ever match among deaf footballers, Region Four team Demerara Strikers defeated Region Six team Berbice Rebels by five goals to three on Sunday.

Kevin Ford, the goalie for the Berbice Rebels was declared the most valuable player according to a press release from the Deaf Association of Guyana (DAG). The game was played at the Georgetown Football Club and was refereed by Lyndon France. DAG said it was agreed that the next match would be played in Region Six later this year.

The two trophies donated by Trophy Stall went to the winning team and Ford. DAG said that the Guyana Football Federation provided gear and balls while the Ministry of Youth and Sport took care of transportation for the Berbice team and ANSA McAl donated drinks for the players. The Red Cross Youth were also present and gave assistance, DAG added.
