Table tennis players David, Lowe, Edghill advance

Guyana’s table tennis players continued the hunt for medals at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland with Trenace Lowe, Chelsea Edghill and Paul David winning their groups to advance to the round of 64.

However that apart, there was not much success for Team Guyana as the athletes Stephan James and Winston George failed to make it to the finals of the 400m event.

James competing in the second of three semi-final heats placed seventh in 46.35 seconds while George competing in the third semi-final heat placed fourth in 46.38s.

In rifle shooting Guyana’s Lennox Braithwaite and Mahendra Persaud placed 15th and 23rd respectively in the Queen’s Prize Individual final.

Braithwaite ended with a score of 385 and 34 V bulls while Persaud shot 376 and 29 V bulls.

In squash, the pair of Alexander Arjoon and Sunil Seth found the going tough yesterday and bowed out with a straight set loss to England’s A. Grant and n Matthew in a men’s doubles encounter.

In table tennis, Christopher Franklyn placed second in his group losing 0-4 to Malaysia’s Muhd Shakirin Ibrahim but defeating Jersey’s Craig Gascoyne 4-1.

 

Idi Lewis placed third in his group losing to 1-4 to Sri Lanka’s Denesh Deshappriya and New Zealand’s John Cordue.

David, though won both his singles matches to top his group defeating G Loi 4-0 and Y. Shing 4-3.

Edghill defeated Magdeline Tshepiso Rebatenne 4-0 and Cynthia Kwabi 4-0 while Lowe defeated Hansani Piuluma 4-0 Fathimath Jumana Nimal 4-1.

Natalie Cummings the third female player placed second in her group after defeating Jinta Azad Kumar 4-0 but losing to Charlotte Carey 0-4
