DDL supports Emancipation horse racing meet

The annual Kennard Memorial Turf Club Emancipation meet which will run off on Sunday, has once again received substantial support in the form of a cash donation from Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL).

The event which will be staged at the Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, saw DDL shouldering the G1 and Lower first prize of $320,000 yesterday.

DDL will also sponsor the fixture under the Five-O brand.

Retired Chancellor of the Judiciary, Justice Cecil Kennard, who accepted the sponsorship cheque from DDL’s Marketing Assistant, Trish Doodnauth, commended the company for their support and mentioned that without corporate help, the meet would not be possible.

Kennard also mentioned that he hopes the sponsorship continues in the years to come.

In excess of 50 horses have already been registered. The seven-race meet feature event will be the A & Lower One Mile race. The sum of $5m in total will be up for grabs.

Other races carded are the J3 Maiden, G3 and H Lower, J1 and Lower, D3 and Lower and the I and Lower.

Races start from 12:30hrs.
