Guyana still hunting Commonwealth success

A medal is still eluding Team Guyana following Day 8 of the ongoing XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Athletics

Winston George (20.88s) placed fifth in semifinal 1 of the men’s 200m and failed to qualify for the final.

 

Cycling

National time trial champion Raynauth Jeffrey rode in 30th (58:27.76) out of a field of 56 cyclists in the men’s individual time trial yesterday.

Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams was 38th after finishing in 59m: 19.97s.

The event was won by Alex Dorsett in 47m: 41.78s of England.

Australia’s Rohan Dennis (47m: 51.08s) and Wales’ Geraint Thomas (47m: 55.82s) pedalled to the silver and bronze medals.

In the women’s time trial, UK based, Clair Fraser-Green finished third to last out of a field of 31 riders.

Local wheelsmen, Alanzo Greaves, Scott Savoury, Geron Williams along with Jeffrey, Williams and Fraser- Green will contest the road race on Sunday.

 

Table tennis

In the Women’s doubles, Guyana lost 2-3 to Sri Lanka

Guyana also lost via a walkover to England.

In the first round of the Men’s singles, Paul David was defeated in straight sets by Australia’s Paul Townsend.
