Guyana, T/dad top Super50 groups

Roseau, Dominica – Trinidad & Tobago smashed through Dominica to top Group A while Guyana topped Group B as group stage action in the Regional Women’s Super50 concluded yesterday across four venues on the island of Dominica.

Trinidad hammered the hosts by 299 runs to storm to the top of Group A while Barbados stumbled to defeat against Grenada. Elsewhere, there were also victories for Guyana and Jamaica in the final group stage matches.

GROUP A AT WINDSOR PARK TRINIDAD & TOBAGO v DOMINICA: Hurricane Trinidad & Tobago blew away Dominica today by a mighty 299-run margin to secure their place at the top of Group A and book a date with Jamaica in the first semi-final today.

After Anisa Mohammed won the toss and elected to bat first, T&T amassed a mammoth 382/7 from their 50 overs, scoring at over seven runs an over throughout their innings. Britney Cooper led with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 155 before retiring hurt. Skipper Mohammed also stood up, scoring 66 while opener Amanda Samaroo scored 53.

The Trinidadians then proceeded to bowl out a resistant Dominican batting line-up for just 83 runs though the hosts did last all of 40.3 overs. Stephanie Ramcharan, Kirbynia Alexander and Stacy Ann King all took two wickets each.

GROUP B AT BOTANICAL GARDENS JAMAICA v ST VINCENT & THE GRENADINES: A century from JodyAnn Morgan and an aggressive 89 from Stafanie Taylor helped Jamaica Ladies overcome St Vincent and the Grenadines at Botanical Gardens.

After being put in to bat first, the Jamaicans built solid partnerships along the way as they made 289/6 from their 50 overs. Morgan scored an even century from just 89 balls, hitting eight fours and six sixes. Taylor struck 89 from 80 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes.

In return, St Vincent & The Grenadines could only muster 143 runs before being bowled out in 45 overs. Captain Juliana Nero made an even 50 from 72 balls while opener Stacey Ann Adams scored a solid 30. Vanessa Watts led the destruction for Jamaica though, taking 5-34.

GROUP B AT BENJAMIN PARK GUYANA v ST LUCIA: Guyana cemented the top spot in Group B after seeing off St Lucia by 168 runs in the final round of matches in the Group Stage of the Regional Women’s Super50.

After being put in to bat, Guyana wracked up 207/5 from their 50 overs thanks to knocks from Kavita Yadram, who scored an unbeaten 53 from 88 balls while West Indies Women’s player, Shemaine Campbell hit 47. Teaddie Crawford was Guyana’s best bowler taking 3-17.

In response, Tremayne Smartt ensured St Lucia would never sight victory, taking 4-10 to help send the St Lucians plummeting to 39 all out in just 18 overs. No batter in the St Lucian team got into double figures.

GROUP A AT GENEVA PLAYING FIELD BARBADOS v GRENADA: Barbados stumbled to a two-wicket victory over Grenada to place second in Group A and will now have to face Group B winners, Guyana in the semi-finals.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Grenada were bundled out for just 73 runs in just over 31 overs. Only one batter got into double figures and that was Rachel Cyrus who made 15. Danielle Small led the destruction for Barbados taking 4-12.

But Afy Fletcher made Barbados’ run chase much more difficult than it ought to have been. Fletcher tore through the Bajan batting line-up taking 6-13 to send panic through the Barbados camp. Hayley Matthews stroke a solid 18 that kept Barbados in check.

They would eventually get home by two wickets.
