Bermuda’s hopes of consolation win dashed by rain

HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Bermuda’s slender hopes of a consolation victory over Canada in the final match of the triangular ICC Americas Under-17 Match Play Tournament at the National Sports Centre were dashed when rain forced the umpires to abandon the game without a ball being bowled.

Table-toppers Canada won all three of their completed matches, beating the United States twice and Bermuda once. The US lost to Canada twice but beat Bermuda, the hosts, twice to finish second.

In the penultimate game Arbraash Khan rattled up a half-century as Canada crushed the US by 82 runs.

Canada, who won by seven wickets when the teams first met, overpowered the US again, notching up 212 for seven and then routing their neighbours for 130 in the 41st over.

Having been sent in, Canada’s top order prospered with Khan, their Pakistan-born captain, leading the way at number four with a 56-ball 62, including eight fours, after openers Thursaanth Anantharajah (48) and Harsh Thaker (26) added 60 for the first wicket and Akash Gill chipped in with 23 before he was run out.
