Invaders Masters pip Aurora Knight Riders

Invaders Masters defeated Aurora Knight Riders by one run in their thrilling rain-affected final of the South Essequibo 40-overs-a-side competition on Sunday at the New Opportunity Corp ground.

In the low scoring encounter which was reduced to 35 overs after overnight rain, Invaders, inserted by Aurora after losing the toss, batted on a slow pitch with a heavy outfield, and was dismissed for 114 in 29.5 overs, with Beesham Seepersaud top scoring with 23. Bowling for Aurora Knight Riders Anwar Baksh was the chief wicket taker with 4-10 from seven overs. He was supported by Rameez Mohamed, who claimed 2-15 from five overs.

Set a target of 115 in 35 overs, Aurora Knight Riders were bowled out 113 in the 35th over. George Phillips made 17 and Annand Maniram 16 runs. Beesham Seepersaud and Devanand Madhoo snared 3-21 and 3-14 respectively from seven overs each to finish as the top bowlers for the Invaders while Linden Daniels and Rajesh Gopaul collected two wickets each to complement Maniram and Seepersaud’s effort.

Invaders Masters took away the winning trophy donated by H. Persaud and Sons Gas Station of Johanna Cecelia Essequibo Coast along with thirty thousand dollars while Aurora Knight Riders received the runner up trophy along with twenty thousand dollars.

Beesham Seepersaud was named Man of the Match.

The tournament featured eight teams and was organised by the South Essequibo Cricket Committee.
