Lawn tennis club off to Suriname

Guyana’s Non Pariel Tennis Team will tackle Suriname’s De Dolfijin Club in Suriname over the weekend. The two teams will compete in singles and doubles matches which will be played at Dolfijin Club Paramaribo, Suriname from tomorrow through to Sunday.

The Non Pariel team comprises Andre Erskine, Vimal Ramnarine, Earl Clark, Philbert Clarke, Charles Adams, Nicholas Fenty, Romario Chanderballi, Imran Ali and the lone female, Denise Barrington and will be headed by the club’s coach Leyland Leacock.

The club’s president, Tandy Primo, told this newspaper that she would like to thank all the persons who made the trip possible adding that she believes that sport and support by persons will make a major difference in the development of young people within our nation.

“The tournament is being used towards building a stronger tennis relationship between the clubs and countries. Also, it will provide an experience to players to develop their skills and capacity to further tennis in Guyana. This is the first regional trip the club will be making since its resuscitation,” she said.

The team will depart for Suriname during the course of today.
