Motor racers gearing up to defend home turf

The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) is gearing up to host the third leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Association (CMRA) on November 18 with aspirations of defending home turf and topping the points stable.

Guyana’s speed demons recently returned from Trinidad and Tobago in third place on 297 points. T&T leads the country standings on 314 points followed by Barbados (300 points). Jamaica is in the cellar on 151 points.

Before heading to the Land of Wood and Water for the fourth and final leg, president of the GMR&SC, Johnny Carpenter stated yesterday that he will pull out all the stops to ensure that Guyana successfully defends its turf.

Chairman of the CMRA, Ray Rahaman highlighted that the host nation on each occasion had the most cars on the circuit and this allowed them to earn the most points at their meet.

If the trend continues, this will bode well for Team Guyana in November at the South Dakota Circuit.

Before November’s meet, Carpenter said that the local competitors will have the chance to test their machines at a Race Meet on September 28.

Meanwhile, local speed ace Danny Persaud, who competes in the Group 4 Division was voted Most Outstanding Driver in the Twin Island Republic.

However he sits second behind CMRA points’ leader and fellow Guyanese Kristian Jeffrey.

Canada-based Paul Vieira is in third.

Jeffrey leads with 85 points; Persaud is 11 adrift, while Vieira has 43.
