The remaining members of the team management staff are assistant coach Dwain Babb, team manager Carlos Bernard, physical trainer Germin Craig and physiotherapist Abiola Blair.

Quizzed on the criteria that was used to select the side, Thompson said: “The criteria used to select the team was discipline, the attendance of the players, mileage to play the game, strength, the technical skill and the tactical ability to play individually, group and collectively, to say no to drugs, to be determined and to be ambassadors of the federation, themselves and Guyana.”

GFF President Christopher Matthias in an invited comment said:“We at the GFF are happy with the measure of work put in by the technical team which also include O’Neil Heywood, Mark Charles and Naitram Persaud”.

“Special mention must also be made to Fruta Conquerors coach Calvin Allen and the contribution of the executives of Fruta Conquerors in allowing us usage of their facilities,” he added.

Matthias further said “We have started in a new direction and a new journey which is developmental, investing our efforts and energy into youth. Ensuring that on the platform of football, there is the holistic development of all the young people who choose to come into the environment of the federation.

“We will have players who understand the new concepts of physiology, biology, nutrition, deportment and etiquette along with techniques and tactics. We wish the team every success as they seek to do both themselves and Guyana proud. This is just the beginning of a four-year development plan,” he added.

Guyana will begin their tournament against Dominica on September 3. In their second match, the local side will face St. Lucia on September 5. They will end their group stage against the hosts on September 7. The team is expected to depart local shores shortly.
