Sarjoo spurs North Soesdyke to first win

Inspired by a blistering half century from Vishal Sarjoo, North Soesdyke got past their village counterparts Uprising by three wickets as action in the East Bank Cricket Association (EBCA)/Goodwood competition continued yesterday at the Demerara Cricket Club ground.

Sarjoo smashed 91 to guide North Soesdyke to 185-7 in 23.1 overs in their run chase.

struck six sixes and seven fours during his entertaining innings before falling nine runs short of his milestone.

He shared in two half century partnerships after his opening partner Martin Rajmangal (06) was removed by Navin Persaud with the score on 18. Sarjoo added 74 runs for the second wicket with Sherwin Stewart (18) followed by 70 runs with skipper Leroy Primo, who scored a brisk 28.

On its victory path, North Soesdyke suffered a scarce after being comfortably placed at 162-3 at one stage. Due to poor shot selections, they lost four quick wickets for 18 runs, slipping to 180-7. However, they achieved victory shortly after, with Ryan Persaud on five and Rakesh Gangaram on four. Travis Moonsammy was the pick of the bowlers for Uprising with two wickets.

Earlier, Uprising, after winning the toss and opting to bat were restricted to 184 all out in 33 overs with R. Rampersaud top scoring with 32. Rampersaud received support from Moonsammy and U. Pooran, who made 30 and 25 runs respectively.

Gangaram and Mark Williams led the North Soesdyke’s attack taking three wickets each while Roy Persaud chipped in with two wickets.

It was the first win of the tournament for North Soesdyke after losing by 25 runs to Laluni Sports Club the previous weekend.
