Bayliss surprised Narine action reported

HYDERABAD, India, IANS/CMC – Kolkata Knight Riders coach Trevor Bayliss has expressed surprise over champion off-spinner Sunil Narine being reported for a suspected illegal bowling action.

The Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies bowler was reported on Monday following KKR’s final game of the preliminary round of the Champions League Twenty20.

However, the charge relates specifically to his faster ball.

“Nothing’s been said in the last three years he’s been with KKR. So that was a bit of a surprise,” Bayliss said here Wednesday ahead of their team’s clash with Hobart Hurricanes in the semi-final of Champions League Twenty20.

Narine has taken a tournament-leading 11 wickets, a performance that propelled KKR into the semi-finals with an unbearen record.

Bayliss, however, said the spinner was confident of overcoming the problem.

“Sunil is a very placid character. It takes a bit to ruffle him. In fact he’s very confident,” said the Australian coach.

“It might be a problem. In fact he does know there’s a concern now. He’s got something he can go and work on. If he had known beforehand there’s a concern, he’d have been able to do some work on it in the past.”

Narine has been placed on the warning list and can continue to play and bowl for his team in a match, organisers the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) said.

Under the CLT20 suspected illegal bowling action policy, if a player receives a report while on the warning list, he will be suspended from bowling for the remainder of the tournament and from bowling in any matches organised by the BCCI until such date as he is cleared.
