Pooranmall lost only one game to Mark Braithwaite but told this newspaper that his toughest competition came from Jairam.

“The games were close,” he said.

Pooranmall, on the way to retaining his title, set a record of five consecutive tournament wins in a calendar year.

In the 100 squares competition however, Pooranmall surrendered his title to Carlton Simon. Braithwaite was second and Pooranmall third.
