Fruta Conquerors in come-from-behind win

Fruta Conquerors overcame Flamingo FC 3-1 when the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) first division league continued at the Tucville Community Centre ground on Friday.

Flamingo stunned the home crowd, opening the scoring in the 10th minute through a Sheldon Gorrick strike after Gorrick pounced on an attempted clearance by the Tucville defender within the penalty area.

However, the home side would find the equaliser as Dwayne Lawrence levelled the score in the 31st minute, finishing to the back of the net after rounding the advancing ‘keeper following a one-on-one combination.

The Tucville unit would then take the lead for the first time in the match 10 minutes later through a Delon Williams effort. Williams slotted his shot into the back of the net, after latching on a squared Lawrence pass within the six yard area.

The come-from-behind win would then be sealed in the 54th minute as Williams netted his double o4through a clinical header to the back of the goal from within the penalty area, after latching onto a cross from a corner kick.

In the second fixture, league leaders Pele defeated fourth positioned the Guyana Police Force (GPF) by a 3-1 margin. The action will continue at the same venue today with four scheduled matches beginning from 14:00hrs.
