-women place second

Team Guyana’s cycling team aboard their flotilla fizik saddles stormed to victory in the Inter Guiana Games (IGG) men’s team time trial yesterday while the local females snared silver.

The national wheelsmen, Kravitz Jeffrey, Alonzo Ambrose, Akeem Arthur and Shaquel Agard worked beautifully to tame the technical 10km course in 12 minutes and 53 seconds, besting their nearest rivals by an impressive 21-second margin.

French Guiana rode in second while the Surinamese biked in third in 13 minutes and 59 seconds.

The course suited Guyana’s strong unit perfectly, featuring long stretches of straight flat sections, the occasional speed bumps an element of technicality.

But they certainly maximized every pedal stroke and capitalized on racing in the beautiful sunshine.

Guyana’s female team of Toshwanna Doris and Ronella Samuels played second fiddle to the host after clocking 10 minutes and seven seconds for the 6km trek. Suriname grabbed gold in nine minutes and 35 seconds.

Cycling action continues this morning at 09:00hrs with the road race.

The males will race for 69km while the females will compete for half that distance.
