Wolf’s Warriors, Regal XI reach final

Two of Guyana’s best softball teams, Wolf’s Warriors and Regal XI clashed last evening in the final of the Open category while Floodlight XI and Savage Masters collided in the Masters’ final as the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association’s (GFSCA) Guyana Softball Cup 4 wrapped up an exciting tourney at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground.

In the Masters leg of the competition, Uniss Yusuf’s unbeaten 104 which was the third century of the competition, steered Floodlight to 198-2 in 15 overs, thus recording a 58-run win over Wellman.

Earlier, veteran softball player Wayne Jones chipped in with 37 and also captured 3-17 as Wellman only managed to muster 140-9 from their allotted 20 overs despite an unbeaten 61 from S. Persaud.

In the second Masters’ semi-final, Savage Masters thumped Parika Defenders by nine wickets courtesy of W. Seebarran’s 4-20 which reduced Parika Defenders to 93-9 from 15 overs, before R. Comacho (37*) and L. Barlow (46) comfortably piloted Savage to a match-winning 94-1 in 10.5 overs.

In the Open semi-final category, Wolf’s Warriors defeated Farm XI at the Everest ground, while Regal got the better of Petamba Enterprise in a match that was played under floodlights at DCC.

Up to press time last evening results for the respective finals were unavailable however Stabroek Sports will carry a  detailed report of the respective finals in tomorrow’s edition of the newspaper.

All four teams recorded convincing victories on Saturday when the semi-finals were played in the city. The Open competition has a top prize of $800,000, while the Masters finalists are hunting a winner’s purse of $600,000 while MVP’s in both categories will receive diamond studded cricket bands.
