It was a Guyanese clean sweep in the second leg of the IAAF South American 10k Classic in Suriname on Sunday as Cleveland Forde, Cleveland Thomas and Winston Missigher crowded the podium.
Guyana’s Andrea Foster also took gold on the distaff side as the local distance dynamos left their indelible footprints on the streets of Paramaribo.
Forde, winner of the first leg here last Sunday, rode the momentum on his way to victory in the second leg in a brisk 32 minutes and 45 seconds. Thomas was seven seconds behind while Missingher stopped the clock in 33 minutes and 42 seconds to snare the bronze.
Seventeen year-old Foster took pole position in 41minutes and 48 seconds. Caroline Marlet finished distant second some 34 seconds behind her while Esmeralda Amania ran in third in 42.40s.
As customary, the winners of the event pocketed US$1000 while the first and second runners-up took home $US600 and $US400 respectively. The third and final leg of the 10k Road Classic will run off on November 27 in Panama.
Forde will be gunning for the treble.
