Wismar/Christianburg edge Chase Academy 4-3

Defending three time Digicel national secondary school champions Wismar/Christianburg, overcame Georgetown heavyweights Chase Academy 4-3 during an inter-school friendly yesterday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground in Bourda.

With their earlier matchup finishing 1-1 in the mining town, Donovan Francis opened the scoring in the 16th minute for the Lindeners, finishing into empty net after the custodian spilt the ball into his path within the centre of the box.

Curtland Johnson would then push the Lindeners further ahead in the 23rd minute compliments of a placed right footed strike into the top right hand corner, after collecting a flat right side cross just inside the centre of the 18 yard area.

With the score unchanged for the remainder of the half, an inspired Josiah Charles showing would lead to the Georgetown side getting back into the contest.

He would play provider to the first goal in the 46th, placing a lobbed right sided pass into the path of Kareem Knights who finished his effort into the left side of the goa with only the keeper in his path.

Charles would then etch his name on the scorer’s sheet four minutes later, slotting home to the lower left corner from just inside centre of box, following one-on-one situation with opposing keeper after racing onto a through pass.

He would then complete a hat-trick of involvement in his team’s goals as Marlon Nedd netted in the 55th minute to give Chase Academy the lead for the first time in the matchup.

Possessing the ball just outside the right side of the penalty box, Charles would pass the ball into the path of Nedd who skillfully turned his marker before finishing into the lower right hand corner just inside the centre of the area.

Under pressure for most of the second period, Wismar/Christianburg would level the score line in the 78th minute through a Kellon Primo right footed strike into the roof of net, after playing one-two pass combination with Johnson on top of the 18 yard area.

The Linden dynasty would then go on to claim the go-ahead winner two minutes later as Johnson netted his double with an easy finish to the empty net after receiving a right sided Primo pass following the latter evading challenges from the final defender and goalkeeper.
