Cariah hits unbeaten century in final warm-up match

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Promising allrounder Yannick Cariah smashed an unbeaten century in Trinidad and Tobago’s final practice match in preparation for the opening round of the Professional Cricket League (PCL) four-day competition starting on Friday. Cariah hit an undefeated 116 to lift Denesh Ramdin’s X1 to 396 for six declared in their first innings at Queen’s Park oval over the weekend. Their opponents, the Jason Mohammed XI replied with 159 for five off 43 overs at stumps as the match ended in a no result. Cariah carried on from an overnight score of 94 to reach triple figures having faced 248 balls and spent 353 minutes in the middle. The 22-year –old left hander hit three sixes and seven fours

and shared a 67-run stand with Justin Guillen for the fourth wickets and a 106-run partnership with Nicholas Pooran for the fifth wickets. Cariah, who was not among the 15 players contracted for the T and T franchise, also added 89 for the sixth wicket with Daron Cruickshank.

The former West Indies Under 19 player has been included on T and T’s 13 man squad skippered by Rayad Emrit, who replaced Ramdin.

Players who are not on retainer contract with the T&T Red Force franchise can still be picked on a “pay for play” basis. Emrit’s men take on Barbados in their opening match of the revamped regional tournament at the Queen’s Park Oval from Friday.
