Tournament coordinator of the annual Mayor’s Cup football tournament and former national coach Lennox Arthur said yesterday that this year’s tournament has been officially rescheduled to January 17, 2015 to avoid clashes with the traditional yearend tournaments.
Speaking exclusively to Stabroek Sports, Arthur said: “We are starting on January 17th. We didn’t want to clash with the yearend events because if everyone doing their own tournament, which clubs will we get to play?”
Questioned if the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Normalisation Committee had given permission to host the event, he said: “The committee has approved the tournament. All I have to do is put things in place which are the approval of the associations and the clubs.”
This year’s tournament was expected to start sometime this month.
