CENTURION, South Africa, CMC – West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy has been handed the Titans captaincy for the rest of the South Africa Ram Slam Twenty20 League.
Titans have lost all three matches in the competition and head coach Rob Walter said it was time to try something new in an attempt to salvage the side’s campaign.
“As a team, we haven’t experienced the type of success we are capable of, so it was felt that a change of captaincy might benefit the team at this point,” said Walter.
“Having Darren as a World Cup-winning captain is a bonus and I am sure the team will be able to benefit from his leadership and vast experience.”
Sammy replaces Henry Davids who Walter said needed to focus on playing match-winning innings.
“I wanted Henry Davids, Darren’s predecessor, to focus solely on winning games for the Titans with the bat. Henry has always placed the team’s success ahead of his own and will always hold a leadership position in this team.” Sammy has struggled in the tournament, taking just five wickets and scoring a mere 25 runs from three innings.
