Jeffrey drives off with individual Group Four honours

The 2014 Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) is a wrap, speed demon, Kristian Jeffrey drove off with the individual Group 4 honours and perhaps helped Team Guyana to retain the coveted country trophy.

In the Mashramani-like atmosphere yesterday at the South Dakota Circuit, the local speedsters revelled on home turf with Jeffrey and his Stag sponsored Mitsubishi Evo V111 leading the band.

To the large crowd’s appreciation, he proudly waved the checkered flag on two occasions and placed third in the other adrenaline rushing event behind Barbados’ Stuart Maloney and Gerrard Carrington (Trinidad).

In what can be possibly described as the changing of the guard, the 2014 Group 4 individual champion, son of the more celebrated Kevin Jeffrey took the mantle and successfully put pedal to the metal to help Guyana to possibly retain the coveted country championship trophy.

The final points standing were still to be tallied up to press time.

Heading into yesterday’s finale Guyana was trailing Trinidad (308) by 11 points (297) but the locals seemed to gain ground and leave virtual leaders in their rear view based on yesterday’s performances. Barbados was on 296 and Jamaica were in the cellar on 151 points.

Other winners yesterday included: Nikhil Seeraram (Super Bike CMRC) and Mark Thompson (Group 2 CMRC). The other results were not made available to the media.

The presentation of team and individual awards will be done today at Rahaman’s Park.

Yesterday’s proceedings were full of thrills and spills. Super Biker Hemanand Boodhram had to be air dashed to a city hospital for medical attention after losing control of his machine which led to neck injuries in the final event of the day.

Major sponsors for the event included: GT&T, Valvoline, E- Networks, Rent-A-Tent, Banks DIH Limited, Southland International, Fly Jamaica and of course Seaboard Marine. (Emmerson Campbell)
