Guinness Greatest of the Streets…Festival City Warriors trounce Island All-Stars

Festival City Warriors continued their winning ways in the Guinness Greatest of the Streets Georgetown edition, dismantling Island All-Stars by a 3-0 margin in the penultimate fixture on Tuesday at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac. Daniel Favourite broke the deadlock in the seventh minute with a powerful right-footed strike to the left-hand corner, after skilfully turning his marker in the centre of the field upon receiving a pass.

Defender Solomon Austin would then increase their lead two minutes later with a first time strike into the right hand corner after receiving a flat right-sided Eon Alleyne cross on the left side of the field.

Alleyne would then cap off a fine team showing as he set up Andrew Gad’s 17th minute goal with a left-sided pass to the player following a two-on-one situation with the final defender.

Also maintaining their unbeaten run in the event was Albouystown-A who defeated D’urban Street 2-0 compliments of a Shaka Jones double. Jones opened the scoring in the 14th minute, slotting his effort down the middle of the goal, after collecting a right-sided Shawn Smith pass. He would then seal the win in the 24th minute, completing his double in a similar manner with a simple right-footed attempt to the centre of the net, after receiving a Devon Dooker right-sided pass.

Sparta Boss maintained their perfect record as they squeaked past Bent Street by a 1-0 score line in the final matchup of the night. Sheldon Shepherd was the difference between the two sides as he found the back of the net compliments of a first half effort in the fifth minute.

Picking up a loose ball unchallenged on the left-sided of the field, the versatile defender would rifle his right-footed strike down the middle of the goal to seal the vital three points for the East La Penitence-based unit.

Former champs, Broad Street Bullies all but guaranteed their berth in the knockout round as they edged South Ruimveldt by a 1-0 margin in the fifth matchup.

Devon Adams etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the fourth minute to seal the win, with a right-sided strike that went through the legs of the final defender and into the left hand corner of the goal.

The third matchup of the night saw Festival City Street Fighters downing Castello Housing Scheme 3-0 through goals from Odel Williams, Jermin Fletcher and Jermin Tinch in the 15th, 17th and 20th minutes respectively.

In the fourth matchup, tournament heavyweights West Front Road-Gold is Money humbled Charlestown 4-1. Randolph Wagner led the way with a double in the ninth and 22nd minutes while Michael Pedro and Darren Benjamin netted in the 10th and 23rd minutes respectively.

In other results, South Sophia crushed Stevedore Housing Scheme-A 4-0 and West Back Road edged North Ruimveldt 4-3 on sudden death kicks after normal time finished nil-all.
