Nyron Joseph wins junior squash tourney 

Nyron Joseph was crowned the Category-A champ of the 2014 Farfan and Mendes Junior Christmas tourney, defeating Ben Mekdeci 3-1 yesterday at the Georgetown Club Squash Courts.

Surrendering the first set 5-11, Joseph would level the score line in the second set as he won 12-10. He would then take the lead in the third set as he won 11-9. The win would then be completed in the fourth set as he prevailed by a 11-3 score line.

In the third place playoff, Akeila Wiltshire defeated Alec Melville 11–5, 13–11 and 11–3. In Category-B, Larissa Wiltshire was crowned the divisional champ as she defeated Taylor Fernandes 11-7, 11-6 and 11-6.

Sealing the second spot in the section was Shomari Wiltshire who defeated Alex Cheeks 6 – 11, 11 – 8, 11 – 4, 8 – 11 and 11-2.

In Category-C, Anthony Islam was crowned the division’s champion while Rebecca Low clinched the second spot after beating Jael Gaskin 11 – 6, 11 – 6,6 – 11, 8 – 11 and 11 – 1. Claiming the third spot was Makeda Harding who overcame Maya Collins 11 – 13, 11 – 8, 11 – 4, 9 – 11 and 11 – 9.

Gianni Carpenter was crowned Category-D’s champ as he defeated Demetrius DeAbreu 11 – 2, 3– 11, 11 – 4 and 11 – 9. Finishing in the second spot was John Phang who defeated Dominic Collins 11 – 7, 11 – 8 and 13 – 11.

In Category-E, Zachary Persaud was adjudged the division’s winner following wins over Madison Fernandes by a 11 – 8, 11 – 3 margin and Nechemiyah Levans by a 10 – 12, 11 – 8, 11 – 3 score.

Finishing in the second spot was Levans who defeated Fernandes 11 – 4, 11 – 8.

James Mekdeci was crowned the winner of Category-F while Nathan Rahaman secured the second spot following wins over Gareth DaSilva by a 8 – 11,11 – 3, 11 – 7 margin and Aliyah Persaud by a 11 – 5, 11 – 8 margin.

Samuel Ince-Carvahal was adjudged the winner of Category-G, defeating Jason Gomes 11 – 9, 11 – 3 while Mohyryan Baksh was adjudged the winner of Category-H after he defeated Paige Fernandes  11- 8, 9 – 11 and 11 – 7.

Securing the third spot in Category-H was Beau Fernandes who defeated Isabella Ramjohn 18 – 16 and 23 – 21.
