Beharry is new BCB president

Anil Beharry defeated Vickram Seubarran by six votes to be elected the new President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) when the body held its

Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of office bearers for the 2015/16 term yesterday at the BCB office, Charlotte Street, New Amsterdam.

Beharry won 22 votes to take the summit position while Seubarran received 16. Dhieranidranauth Somwaru was elected first vice president after defeating Vemen Walter also by 22 votes to 16. Qualis Winter was voted in as the second vice president. Winter gained 18 votes to overcome Walter with 15 and David Black five.

Walters, however, claimed the third vice president post unopposed.

Angela Haniff was returned unopposed as the secretary while Vicky Bharosay copped the post of treasurer. National female player Plaffiana Millington and Ricardo Bachan are the assistant secretary and assistant treasurer respectively.

The clubs present at the meeting were Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Port Mourant, Albion, Chesney, Rose Hall Canje, Young Warriors, Mental Hospital, Bermine, Kildonan, Whim National, Mt. Sanai, Police and Blairmont. The associations were West Berbice, Upper Corentyne and Berbice River. However, the BCB received two letters from the Berbice River CA indicating their representatives (four each) but after some deliberation members decided to allow two representatives from each faction to vote.

Speaking after the elections, Beharry thanked the members for their support and said his team is capable of taking the game to another level in the county.

“Our main objective is to work together for the development of the game,” he added.

Somwaru spoke about the importance of discipline and advised the executive to remain committed to the game.

Guyana Cricket Board general secretary Anand Sanasie, who observed the elections, congratulated Beharry and said he looked forward to working with him and other executives of the board.
