Marigolds

Tagetes commonly called Marigold originated in Mexico, but can be found throughout South America and the Caribbean.

They are several varieties of Marigolds and Hybrid Marigolds, the most popular being the African Sahara Mixed, which bears orange and lemon/yellow flowers and the French Dwarf Double Mixed, which bears orange, red and lemon/yellow flowers.

Both are hardy annuals that would last approximately 3 to 6 months. They are ideal for pots, plant boxes, patio display and bedding borders.

Garden (Peggy Chin)I recently received a new variety of Marigold Seeds and today we are going to look at how to plant Marigold Seeds.

Prepare the soil by pouring Pro Mix into a container and adding water to moisten. Let it stand for 15 minutes, then fill a seedling tray or small pots with the Pro Mix and sow the seeds. Cover lightly with a thin layer of Pro Mix and lightly water using a watering can with a fine rose nozzle or misting it with a spray bottle. Seedlings will appear in 14 to 21 days. When they are approximately 2 inches in height, transplant them into suitable containers using potting soil.

Continued next week. Until then, happy gardening!
