Revenue Authority continues random selection of containers

The Guyana Revenue Authority continued its random selection of commercial cargo for examination at its headquarters on Camp Street on Friday and the names of five businesses were drawn.

Torginol Paints, Guyana Beverages Incorporated, Amazon Caribbean Limited, Demerara Distillers Limited and R Maye Hardware Guyana Incorporated will have their containers subjected to a 100% physical examination at a date to be announced.

The initiative was launched in February last year with GRA conducting 2 drawings per week.

According to Public Relations Officer Supervisor Latoya Martin, the process involves the placement of all the names of importers who would have lodged containers from a specific period to the current day into a lotto roller cage.

These names would have been verified by the organization’s Internal Auditor, who ensures that all names have been placed into the device. Members of the public, within the premises of GRA are then asked to pull out one name with their eyes turned away until five names have been selected. Each name is read aloud and recorded by the Internal Auditor.

A date is later announced for a 100% physical examination of the containers on both the Facebook page of GRA and via press releases with the public and media being invited to observe.

The random selection initiative is part of GRA’s move towards improving transparency and developing public confidence in its operations.
