Accused in GPL million-dollar burglary get bail

Break and enter and larceny accused Devon Brown and Simon Primo were yesterday each granted a $75,000 bail release.

Brown and Primo had been remanded by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on December 30, after being charged with breaking and entering the supervisory room of a Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) branch at Sophia on the previous day and stealing two computers and a printer valuing $1 million in total.

The court had also been told that the two men led police on a high speed chase in the city before being caught.

They both had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ann McLennan granted bail yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where Brown’s attorney renewed his application for his client to be granted his pretrial liberty.

The two men are to make their next court appearance on January 16.
