APNU presents laptop to St Ignatius headmistress

-to demonstrate ‘one laptop per teacher’ policy

In a demonstration of its proposed education policy, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has presented the Headmistress of St Ignatius Secondary School with a laptop.

According to an APNU press release, Brigadier David Granger, Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and Chairman of APNU, made the presentation at a rally in the Upper Takutu – Upper Essequibo region last Sunday

During his address to the residents of Lethem, Tabatinga, St Ignatius, Kumu, Moco Moco and Quarrie, Granger told those gathered education is the way to promote development in the region. Further, he said education must be led by corps of dedicated teachers and supported by easy access to the information superhighway.

In promoting APNU’s campaign promise of internet accessibility in every state/government building and institution, Granger said internet access should not be an entitlement to a few. More than that, Granger said, APNU promises its administration will improve distance education via the Cyril Potter College and University of Guyana undergraduate programme for residents in the Rupununi region, which is the largest in the country.
