Camp and New Market St junction sinking

The junction of Camp and New Market streets, which was excavated and repaired by Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) to facilitate completion of a component of the rehabilitated sewerage system last July, has started to sink.

GWI Public Relations Officer Timothy Austin told Stabroek News the completed work on the area was sanctioned by the relevant authorities and GWI was not responsible thereafter.

However, when contact was made with Mayor Hamilton Green, he said the work on the area is not fully completed and time was needed to allow for the road to be compacted, which will require a finishing applied at the appropriate time.

In July last, GWI had made an announcement of the closure of the junction to facilitate the work.

The project was undertaken by the Government of Guyana and the Inter-American Development Bank under the US$10 Million Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme.
