Montrose fisherman missing at sea

A fisherman has gone missing, and is feared drowned, after falling off a boat while at sea.

Sadeia Sanchara, called ‘Old Dog,’ 40, of Lot 176 5th Street Montrose, East Coast Demerara, (ECD), left his home to return to work at the Meadowbank wharf on Wednesday last. Hours later, his family received a call from his boss relating the tragic news.

According to the missing man’s mother, Drupattie Santura, called ‘Bibi,’ searches undertaken by her son’s workmates, including three boats containing a total of 15 persons, have not led to any sign of him.

The woman said she heard he fell off the boat somewhere between Buxton and Melanie.

“Like I don’t know if he fall overboard or what, but what we heard is that he did and the captain and so jump behind he to save he but they couldn’t help him,” she said. “I was at work when I got a call from me daughter saying that she brother, ‘Old Dog,’ fall overboard and they ain’t finding he and she immediately left for home.”

Santura lost another son, Richard Sanchara, who was murdered some two and a half years ago and she is still grieving.

The woman, with tears in her eyes, continued that she is a very sickly person and doesn’t know how she will survive now because Sadeia was the sole breadwinner of the home.

When Stabroek News visited the family home they were in the process of the making preparations for a wake, since they say they are expecting bad news.
