A labourer was yesterday granted $100,000 bail after he denied wounding another man.

It is alleged that on January 20, at Central Rupununi, Mark Anthony Marks, called ‘Country,’ unlawfully and maliciously wounded Dexter Mentor, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause actual bodily harm to him.

Marks pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Attorney Jerome Khan, who represented Marks, made an application for bail to be granted in reasonable sum, while noting that Mentor was discharged from the hospital and was out of danger.

Police prosecutor Michael Grant had no objections to bail but asked for conditions to be applied.

The magistrate granted bail with the condition that Marks report to the officer-in-charge of the Lethem Police Station every fortnight starting from February 27.

The matter was transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where it will be called on March 9.
