Grove Post Office burgled

The police have launched an investigation into a break-in at the Grove Post Office, East Bank Demerara which was discovered early yesterday morning.

An official of the umbrella body, the Guyana Post Office Cooperation (GPOC) said that among the items stolen were cash and other items inclusive of stamps. The official said that the GPOC is currently conducting an internal investigation to ascertain what was taken and the exact quantum.

The official who indicated that no other information is available said that the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the break-in.

Over the years, post offices around the country have been targeted by burglars and armed robbers whose main focus has been safes and pension monies respectively. There have been repeated calls for a boost in security arrangements at these locations.
