A man was remanded to prison yesterday after being accused of stealing $75,000 from his grandfather.
James McDonald, 32, pleaded not guilty to the charge of larceny at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.
It is alleged that McDonald stole the cash from his grandfather at 59 Lime and Bent streets, between February 9 and February 10, 2015.
Prosecutor Adduni Inniss said McDonald, who is unemployed and has no fixed place of residence, would always take his grandfather’s money whenever he visits him.
Inniss said McDonald had visited his grandfather’s home and asked him to take him back in. His grandfather subsequently agreed. The grandfather went to bed and when he woke he made a check for McDonald and noticed he was missing along with the cash. The theft was reported to the Alberttown Police Station and McDonald was arrested and charged.
Prosecutor Inniss objected to bail and Magistrate Annette Singh remanded McDonald to prison. His next court date is March 17.
