BV guard loses house in early morning fire

Burning coals were the only things left of a Beterverwagting man’s house after it was destroyed by fire early yesterday morning.

Deon Bamdeo, 33, of Lot 13 Beterverwagting Railway Embankment, stated that he was at work at the nearby Globe Manufacturing & Drug Company Limited when he received a call from a neighbour, who informed him that his house was on fire.

“I can’t understand. I left my place good and I lock up the house. I didn’t even cook so you could say I left the fire on or something. Everything was good,” Bamdeo, a security guard, lamented.

Bamdeo stated that it was around 1 am when he received the call. “My neighbour called me and tell me that my house on fire, that it deh flat on the ground. So I picked up my bicycle and ride over and when I reach the fire trucks were there and house was gone,” he said.

He stated that he believed that his house was robbed before it was set on fire. He stated that his belief was confirmed when a neighbour informed him that her grocery shop was broken into and robbed.

Bamdeo lived alone in the house.
