Owner of car rental service on cocaine possession charge

The owner of a car rental service was yesterday refused bail after being charged with cocaine possession.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, March 4th, 2015, Lance Walter had eight grammes of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Walter, 36, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One yesterday.

Walter, who resides at 84 5th Street, Subryanville, was charged similarly three years ago, but his attorney stated that he was never found with any narcotic substance in his possession prior to the current charge against him.

According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, at 8:30 PM on Wednesday, police went to Walter based on information they received. He said after they approached him and questioned him, the man reached into his pocket and threw a bag with a white substance to the ground some two feet away from him.

Walter was arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station, where the substance that was retrieved was identified as cocaine.

After listening to the prosecutor’s submission, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry denied bail to Walter and transferred the case to Court Three for March 11.
