Wash bay attendant accused of stealing driver’s phone, cash

A doctor has accused a wash bay attendant of doing a lot more than cleaning her car when she took it to be washed.

Akini Agard, of 162 St Stephens Street, Charlestown, is charged with stealing a smartphone along with a quantity of cash from Dr Irene Quandie’s car.

Agard told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Georgetown on Monday that he was innocent of the charge and he was released on $100,000 bail.

It is alleged that on March 8, in Georgetown, Agard stole a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 smartphone along with $60,000 belonging to Dr Quandie.

Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that Dr Quandie only discovered the theft after her car was returned to her.

After bail was granted, the matter was transferred to Court 11 for March 23.
