A Leguan man, accused of breaking and entering a shop and stealing a quantity of drinks and cash, was released on $100,000 bail on Friday by a city court.

Sarwan Raj, of Enterprise, Leguan, denied the charge read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The charge stated that between March 10 and March 11, he broke and entered the Leguan shop, and stole the items amounting to a total of $98,420 which was the property of Savita Sookhoo.

According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, Sookhoo operates the shop and on March 10, she secured the premises, and returned the following day about 3.30 pm when she observed that a window on the building was not intact.

She then made checks inside the shop and discovered the items mentioned in the charge missing. Sookhoo subsequently reported the matter and the police followed information which led to the arrest of the defendant who assisted in recovering most of the articles, Grant added.
