Householder shot, three men held after East Berbice robbery spree

At about 2030h. last night, police say that three men, one of whom was armed with a firearm and the others with cutlasses, entered the home of Chandrajeet Persaud, 51 years, of Glasgow Housing Scheme, EBB, through the open doorway.

They held him up and demanded valuables, however Persaud resisted and was shot to his back in the process. The police said in a press release that he has been admitted to hospital for medical treatment.

The three men then proceeded to another home at Glasgow where they confronted Stanley McKenzie as he was parking his motor vehicle, and took away his motor vehicle and a cell phone and escaped, the release said.

It is suspected that the perpetrators then went to a home at No. 2 Village, Canje, where they entered through the open door and held up the family and took away a quantity of jewellery and a sum of cash; and then to the nearby Caribbean Cuisine Restaurant where they held up the bartender and took away his cell phone and $20,000.00 and escaped, the release said.

The men then went to Canefield, Canje, where they entered the home of Emaan Singh and family and held them up and took away jewellery, cash, and a cell phone and fled, the police said.

The stolen motor vehicle was found abandoned in Cumberland, Canje.

Three men have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations, the release said.
