Mechanic caught on camera lifting cash from car

-court hears

A mechanic was remanded to prison last week after a court heard that he was caught on camera stealing a bag containing $1M from a car.

Jason Chesney pleaded not guilty last Thursday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

It is alleged that on March 23, 2015, in front of A. Ali’s General Store, at Grove Public Road, Chesney went into Reaz Rahaman’s car and stole a bag of cash amounting to $1M.

The prosecution’s case is that Rahaman received the cash from a cambio and subsequently secured it under the driver’s seat of his car. Later that day, Rahaman parked the car in front of the general store but when he returned later he noticed the cash missing.

Police say a report was made and CCTV footage that was obtained by investigators showed Chesney removing the money from the car. Chesney was arrested and charged.

The prosecution objected to bail given the seriousness of the matter and Chesney was remanded to prison until April 24, 2015, when the case will be called at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
