At about 15:00h today, the police say that convicted prisoner Navar Edwards called “Ramesh”, 31 years, of No 0 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was found hanging from a sheet tied to the door of his cell in the Mazaruni Prison. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bartica Hospital.
Edwards was serving a five-year sentence for a sexual offence and had been admitted to the Mazaruni Prison on April 09, 2015, police say.
Investigations are in progress.
