Businessman charged with underreporting currency at airport

Rajesh Seegobin, the owner of a tyre business, was yesterday charged with underreporting cash at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

Seegobin pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on March 17, he knowingly made a false declaration of cash, stating he had in his possession £30,300 when he allegedly had £32,300.

The man’s lawyer petitioned for reasonable bail on the grounds that his client was not a flight risk as he has a fixed address at 90 Public Road, Prospect and is the owner of R&S Seegobin, a tyre business that he has been a part of for the past 20 years.

The prosecution had no objections to bail and, as result, Seegobin was granted $100,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He is expected to return to court on April 23.
