Opposition alliance flays gov’t over Ramsaran attack

APNU+AFC today flayed the government over the verbal abuse of rights activist Sherlina Nageer by Health Minister Dr Bheri Ramsaran on Monday and said that the PPP/C was providing reasons to the public to vote them out of office.

The opposition alliance press release follows:

PPP/C habit of abusing and threatening citizens will end soon

Both the Women and Youth Groups of the APNU+AFC Coalition are outraged by the recent cursing out of a young woman at the Whim Magistrate’s Court by Dr. Bheri Ramsarran, the PPP/C incumbent Minister of Health. Even though the nation had been treated in the recent and not so recent past to countless incidents of similar behavior by former President Bharrat Jagdeo; even though we remember clearly the utterly vulgar, expletive-laced and condescending descriptions of a young reporter by the PPP/C’s incumbent Attorney General, Anil Nandlall, we still cringed when we listened to the recent threats Ramsarran issued to the young woman. Among other things, he threatened to have “some of my (his) women” strip and beat her “just for the fun of it”.

He promised more than once to slap the young lady who was simply asking about the reasons for his presence at the courthouse where the case brought by Attorney and Accountant Christopher Ram against the former president was to be heard.

Ramsarran’s behaviour crosses every boundary of decency. He has once again demonstrated the crassness and total disrespect for this nation’s women which we are now convinced is an entrenched culture within the hollow halls of Freedom House.

In fact, the word “culture’ is a misnomer when applied to the PPP/C. This crew of foul-mouthed, disrespectful, uncultured officials shows us time and time again that they have abrogated unto themselves the right to mistreat the citizens of this nation, the right to do and spew whatever they want to without fear of consequences.

The PPP/C is providing Guyanese with the reasons to remove them from the leadership of this country. They have taken the trust and confidence that our people gave to them to lead us onto a path of development and enlightenment, and turned that trust into embarrassment at home and abroad, into verbal abuse of ordinary citizens, professionals and even of high ranking personages of the ilk of Dr. Yesu Persaud.

This abuse has to stop now.   The nation needs no more evidence that the PPP has no respect for the people whom they should have been governing, the people, the nation’s HUMAN CAPITAL. We have grown tired of their constant spewing of racist rhetoric and their indulgence in hate mongering. The PPP/C is a stain on Guyana’s international image.

This is the time to remove this party from government so that this nation could move forward in an atmosphere of mutual respect and genuine service. This is the time to mould Guyana into the nation it should have been decades ago. This is the time for a caring government of bright minds and disciplined characters who understand the value of a nation’s people. This is the time for the Coalition.
