Accused in stabbing gets bail release

A man who is accused of stabbing another man in the chest was yesterday granted $70,000 bail after he denied the charge in a city court.

Naresh Narine, 34, of Lot 2474 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on April 14, he unlawfully wounded Michael Peters.

No details about the charge were presented to Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry save for the allegation that Narine stabbed Peters to his chest.

The prosecution had no objections to bail and Narine’s attorney, Latchmie Rahamat, made an application for reasonable bail, while noting that her client is not a flight risk.

The case was transferred to the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court for June 15.
