Alvin Kallicharran endorses APNU+AFC

APNU+AFC today announced it had been endorsed by legendary Guyanese and West Indian batsman, Alvin Kallicharran.

It is one of the biggest endorsements to date for either of the two main contestants at Monday’s general elections.

It is all the more significant for the opposition alliance as Kallicharran, 66, hails from Port Mourant, Corentyne, the birthplace of the late President Cheddi Jagan and a stronghold of the PPP/C.

In advertisement for APNU+AFC in today’s newspapers, Kallicharran said that after a very long time he was able to spend quality time in Guyana, is convinced that a lot more can be done for sport and that APNU+AFC can do this.

Kallicharran, a former West Indies captain said “I am convinced that a lot more can be done if government partners with the various associations for the promotion of sports rather than trying to take control of it. After careful thought I have decided to endorse the APNU+AFC because I think it is time for change.

“After 23 years it is clear that sports has been neglected in Guyana. We have heard enough promises from this government and what they will do after this election when for the past two decades they had the opportunity to deliver on these promises and failed. It is time for change”.
