Cobbler gets bail on break and enter charge

A cobbler landed himself before a city court on a break and enter and larceny charge on Monday after allegedly raiding a grocery store in Linden.

Orlando Forde is accused of breaking into the grocery store owned by Bibi Azeema and carting away over $25,000 in cash and a quantity of snacks valued $15,000.

Police say between the night of March 2 and the morning of March 3, Azeema had secured her business place but returned to find the store ransacked and the cash and snacks missing.

A report was made and an investigation led to Forde being arrested and charged.

The prosecution objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence as well as the possibility that if granted bail Forde would not return to court for trial.

However, Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry set bail at $75,000 and transferred the matter to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for May 19.
